A Hypereosinophilic Syndrome Presenting as Eosinophilic Colitis
HYPEREOSINOPHILIC SYNDROME (HES) HAS THREE DEFINING FEATURES: marked hypereosinophilia for at least 6 months, no confirmed etiology for the eosinophilia, and eosinophilia-related symptoms or organ dysfunction. However, a shorter period of hypereosinophilia with symptoms requiring eosinophil-lowering therapy is also acceptable. We report a case of HES presenting as eosinophilic colitis. Although...
متن کاملEosinophilic myocarditis and hypereosinophilic syndrome.
Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a heterogeneous group of hematological disorders characterized by a chronic, unexplained hypereosinophilia with tissue damage. Cardiac involvement occurs in ∼20% of patients with HES and represents a major turning point. Cardiac injuries related to eosinophilia are divided into three chronological phases: eosinophilic infiltration, thrombosis, and fibrosis. W...
متن کاملHypereosinophilic syndrome presenting as peripheral neuropathy.
An unusual case of hypereosinophilic syndrome is described which presented with peripheral neuropathy with no evidence of cardiac involvement. The response to steroid therapy is documented and the literature on peripheral neuropathy in hypereosinophilic syndrome is reviewed.
متن کاملIdiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome presenting as childhood hemiplegia.
A case of childhood hemiplegia due to idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome is reported. There was no cardiac lesion. The neurological complications associated with hypereosinophilic syndrome and the pathophysiological mechanism of neurotoxicity of human eosinophils are discussed. It is likely that the neurological deficit was due to eosinophilic neurotoxicity.
